March 18, 2009 - Around 6:15 P.M. Hanover and Parisppany firefighters responded to a brush fire on Troy Road. Upon arrival firefighters found a fast moving fire spreading through brush and reeds. Mutual aid was called to the scene from several area departments and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service Division A units also responded with a Tender, Several Engines, a Dozer and Numerous Handcrews. Access to the fire was extremely difficult for firefighters due to the marsh land that became involved. Flames were as high as 30-40 feet in some areas. The fire threatened some dwellings off of South Beverwyck Road however a fire line was cut by the dozer team and local firefighters protected structures with hoselines and deckguns. The fire was knocked down by 1:00 A.M. but not placed 100% under control until 9:00 A.M. A New Jersey Forest Fire Service Helicopter surveyed the scene in the morning and it was determined that 150 acres burned in total. Photos from the southside of the fire by: Adam Alberti
