Jefferson Township Fire Companies 1 & 2 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 43 Mason St. just before 10 P.M. Upon arrival they found a 1.5 story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire showing. Firefighters attempted an interior attack but were forced to withdraw due to the heavy volume of fire that was rapidly spreading. Firefighters went to a defensive operation and used at least 4 handlines to knock down the fire. The fire took approximately one hour to bring under control. Mutual aid responded to the scene from Picatinny Arsenal for a rapid intervention team, and Roxbury, Mount Arlington, and Hopatcong responded with tankers. Two firefighters suffered injuries at the scene. One was transported to the hospital by the Jefferson Rescue Squad. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Photos By: Adam Alberti
