NETCONG, NJ FATAL 3RD ALARM 10 MAIN ST. 4/6/12

Just after midnight on April 6, 2012 Netcong firefighters responded to 10 Main St. on a structure fire. Upon arrival Chief 1 reported smoke showing and fire showing on Division 2 Bravo side. Firefighters arrived within minutes and began an aggressive interior attack and search for a man that was reported to still be in the building. Over a dozen residents escaped the building without injury. While fire fighters attacked the blaze fire spread rapidly through voids in the 100 year old wood frame structure and the 3rd floor and cockloft became involved in fire. Firefighters were forced to go to defensive operations as fire took hold of the upper floors. Multiple master streams and two ladder pipes operated for several hours before brining the fire under control. Fire fighters located the body of the missing man who perished in the blaze. The fire escalated to 3 alarms bringing in fire companies from Roxbury, Budd Lake, Flanders, Chester, Byram, Mount Arlington, Stanhope and the Morris County Air Truck to battle the blaze. Over 100 fire fighters battled the blaze into the early morning hours. The Morris County Prosecutors office Arson Unit was on scene to conduct a full investigation. The cause of the blaze is not known at press time.
