At around 0705 hours on April 29, 2012 Passaic Fire Fighters were dispatched to 43 Van Houten Ave on a report of smoke coming from the 2nd floor. Upon arrival they found a working fire on the 2nd floor and attic of an occupied 2.5 story wood frame dwelling. Engine 1 members stretched a handline to the 2nd floor and began working on the fire. Ladder 1 and Ladder 2 members provided roof ventilation. The fire was controlled within 20 minutes. The occupants of the home escaped without injury. One firefighter received minor injuries.
